Missed Opportunity?

I have recently made the quite public jump into "preparedness girl" and what good would all my preparedness be if I couldn't share the knowledge and fun with others?  So, after learning the joys of making my own laundry soap, I had to share it with others.  For this years Super Saturday (renamed girls night out)  I decided to offer a class.  We had lots of cutesie crafts and then this class.  I was so happy and a bit surprised that so many ladies signed up for it.  This required lots of supplies.  There are no buckets left at HD and there are no soap products left on the shelf at WM.  When I walked into HD to get all the buckets I wasn't sure what I would need to carry 23 buckets so I decided to go for the regular shopping cart.  It was pretty comical looking.  This caused a man who works there to ask me what I was doing with all the buckets.  ~making soap *are you selling it? ~I am teaching a class.  *where?  ~at my church..... oh man I have never been prodded on in this manner before.  *ok, what church?   ~The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  ~ok I know a little about you guys.  You are a really prepared people....he told me about another guy that comes in to get gardening things and then we talked a bit about the soap and how he could get the recipe online.  Now if I were a good missionary at that point I probably would have had some pass along cards in my purse and could have given him one....but I didn't.

I made it up to the cashier who was a woman and I went through pretty much verbatim the same conversation with her.  Now her I could have invited over to the church to make one with us because, after all it was girls night out!  But, I always assume people are just being nice and I offer the least amount of information that I think people are looking for.  Plus I wasn't sure how to even tell her how to get to the building and basically I'm a chicken.  Again I offered her how she could get the recipe online and how to go about making it etc...  The other gentleman I was talking to earlier tracked me down to see if I wanted one of the fun colors they had for buckets since they were being used to store laundry soap for girls. He was really sweet.  Only problem with the blue and pink buckets is that they don't have lids.  Oh well.

Saturday I had the class and made something like 28 buckets of laundry soap.  I had bought 5 extra buckets and sold them all and then sold 2 of the buckets that belonged to ladies that couldn't make it that night.  This meant that I had to stop at HD on my way home so that I could give those ladies their buckets at church the next day.  What do you think happened?  LOL  I had the same conversation with the cashier only this time it was a college age looking guy that was pretty cute.  He wanted to know what I was doing with the buckets. He didn't ask about the class I had taught so we never discussed that it was for my church, but he did write down the ingredients and what he needed to look up online to get the recipe.  It took everything in me not to laugh and wonder what in the world someone his age needed with 10 gallons of laundry detergent, but I hope he finds a nice girl to marry and have lots of babies with so he can dazzle her with his money saving soap making skills.  :0)

At church during RS we have a couple of minutes set aside for anyone that wants to share missionary moments.  This Sunday I shared with everyone how not to be a missionary by being given 3 opportunities and being a big ole chicken.  I'm a big believer in honesty and that sharing your failures is just as important as the successes.   So, missed opportunity?  That is a case that could be argued, but there are 3 more people in the world that had a pleasant experience with a Mormon and now know how to save money by making their own soap and when someone does approach them later a bit more boldly they will remember the crazy bucket lady....and I can work on not being such a chicken. :0)
