This Christmas Eve the girls and I were feeling festive, so we put bows on our heads and headed to a party at our friends house (where this picture was taken). To us this had no meaning other than decoration, but we were asked if we were "presents." This made me laugh and say something like our presence was the present. This little funny joke got me thinking about that statement though. I thought about the only thing that we truly possess is ourselves. That one true possession is the only thing we truly can give away. This giving of ourselves is in our time and our talents to help each other. These gifts of time and talent convey the true meaning of Christmas. It reminds me of the scripture; " When we are willing to bear one another's burdens that they may be light...and willing to mourn with those that mourn...and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places..." Mosiah 18:8,9. By giving of ourselves we express our love for each other and ultimately for our Heavenly Father.
I find it amazing and humbling that a cute little joke can be a bigger reminder of what truly is important.
