The annual "Balloons Aloft" that is held at the kids' elementary school was this Friday morning. The kids love to go to this so we got up at 6 am and headed out the door by 6:30 for the quick trip over to the school for hot chocolate, donuts and balloons. It is pretty darn cold in the mornings now so we bundled up. The morning started off with a long line for the donuts and (according to the kids) the world's worst hot chocolate. :) We also had a problem when Jordyn bit into what she envisioned to be the worlds best and biggest plain donut in the world, only to find a nice creamy blob of lemon in the middle. Oh man, this was sooo not good. She was spitting and crying and wanting her mouth wiped out with a paper towel and she refused to drink the hot chocolate to get the taste out so Emma ended up giving her the rest of her donut and all was well again.
It was about 7 am when the balloons began to be inflated. There were 4 balloons in all and there is just something about walking around so close to the balloons and watching them inflate and then make their way upward into the bright crisp blue sky that is captivating.
We all had a great time and we even made it back over to the house for Emma to catch the bus to school and to make the other kids some "real" hot chocolate for breakfast before they had to head out for school. The 4 balloons also flew right over our house and the kids got to wave at them. I think this is my favorite time of the year when the colorful balloons float up into the most perfect blue backdrop while I daydream of the miracle of flight- one day I will ride in a ballon. So cool.

There was some sort of balloon event over in Walla Walla a while back. I saw some clips on the news. Then I cried. If I wouldn't have been so depressed about missing Albuquerque's balloon fiesta, I would have laughed at what I saw on the TV. There were like 10 balloons. People were excited. It was just sad.
