I'm feeling rather lazy this year about writing on my blog. I've got too many other things on my to do list. And let's be honest. I've had to do a mad dash catch up for a new favorite show of mine because Hulu is bratty when it comes to deleting episodes. It's a sad state of affairs when a tv show gets priority in your life. Not all of it, but what was previously my writing time is now devoted to that. It will end soon and I'm vowing not to get addicted to any new shows. I've been going thru some personal issues lately and it became my therapy. Sometimes you just need to shut down. Enough excuses. What are some of the things I've been up to.
A pez dispenser display. I have been trying to figure out what to do with all of Jared's collection and finally came up with a plan. Take a shadow box. Make some shelves for it and voila! Instant awesome. Why is there no picture of the completed project, you say. Well, because it is still sitting on the floor outside his room (it's only been sitting there for 2 weeks). It is patiently waiting for me to drag the ladder upstairs. Drill some holes and then lift the massively heavy thing onto the wall.....after we find a way to stick down each dispenser so it can be lifted. I originally thought velcro would work, but it's not stable enough because of the bottom of the dispensers. I think tacky putty will work, Jared just needs to lay them all out and help me try to stick them down. A glass door would have been a better option so we could add them after they were on the wall, but that was only a dream.
My little Ethan turned 12. He will be ordained Thursday night with the Aaronic priesthood. So exciting. All he wanted for his birthday was to have lobster. So, we took him out for lobster. Thankfully he loved it. I got a free ice-cream cake because the burger place I got it from promised me a cake when it was impossible to make good on it. You need 48 hours to make a cake and they only had 24. When I went to pick it up, it was taking forever and then the manager came out and told me she was giving it to me for free because she didn't think it would make the trip home without melting. Long story short. I took the cake home in a box of ice and threw it in the freezer. It was a deflated sad looking cake with some pretty horrible decorating on it, but hey! I got a 25 dollar cake for free and it was delicious!
Ethan has always wanted a piñata so I found one that fit his personality perfectly and let him pick out what kind of candy he wanted in it. It was only the good stuff. I decided that it was far too cold to stand outside just to whack on the thing, so I let them beat on it in the house to make a big enough hole to get the candy out. It was a nice family birthday party and Ethan got a robot he was begging for for months.
My kids are super entertaining. I've said it before, but it's still true. Jared got a couple little treats from Nate's office manger as payment for counting M&M's for a prize jar. One of the treats was mustache post its. The kids were wearing them, so I had to get a picture. Even Watson had one on. The other picture is "thug life." Emma was mocking a hoodie that I brought home for Watson because it says "mommies little prince" with a bejeweled heart. She thought it was awful until she realized that it was a hoodie. I said it looked like they were living more of the "arrow" life and he just needed to have a little quiver strapped on and he would be dope. Those pictures are just too enjoyable!
Our latest adventure happened while getting ready for church on Sunday. Ethan tripped on the stairs. He was complaining that his finger hurt and I told him he was fine. Oh yeah, Jordyn also went to church with a wet rag on her eye because it had gotten irritated the night before when a balloon she was inflating popped in her face. We were quite the scene. Anyway after church a friend of Ethan's grabbed his hand and squeezed it and he about lost his mind. It wasn't until then that I noticed that his hand was swollen. Uh oh. I guess he really did hurt his finger when he fell.
I took him into Nate's office Monday morning and sure enough, he broke his 4th metacarpal. The part of the finger that is in the palm part of the hand. Nate put a cast on to stabilize and we made an appointment with the orthopedic office. He got his wicked cool cast, that his dad put on, cut off and an ugly boring orange one put on. The only good thing is that he got his pointer finger left out of this one, making it possible for him to still play xbox. haha. That's all he really cared about.
We've also been helping a friend with a house remodel and Jared stepped on a nail and then the next day Emma did the same thing. I think we need to hang out somewhere safe and free from potential injury for awhile. But, Jared is pretty proud of his sledge hammer swinging skills. I love all things construction, so I was in heaven. Being a carpenter is in my blood.
