Busy Busy

The month of May is filled with all manner of performances and field trips. Ethan had 2 performances this week. One on Thursday and one on Saturday. Both times he played with the 6th grade band and also Show Choir.
Saturday's performance was at Cliffs Amusement park and it just so happened to be the coldest and windiest day we've had. It was freezing. Luckily the sun finally decided to come out once the boys wanted to go and ride all the rides.
Saturday also happened to be one of the fullest days. The boys started out the morning at 7:30 at a fundraising garage sale to raise money for scout camp. Then it was off to cliffs until 4 and then home to swim. It was a full day and completely void of computer games. The only problem is that Ethan had to prepare a talk for Mother's day and he was too tired to work on it until Sunday morning. You can tell that it was a little chilly by the coat our friend was wearing over the swim suit. Now that's dedication to fun when you're willing to brave the cold to swim. Luckily the pool was nice and heated.
Friday was a field trip to El Morro. I've been there before so I knew what I was getting myself into. It is a 2 1/2 hour bus ride there and then back. In fact I think we were in the bus longer than we were at the monument. I came prepared this time. I even told my friend that she should prepare for me to have some headphones in and a book in my hand so that I could enjoy the trip. It was one of those field trips where my daughter informed me that- btw....I signed you up to go...you're a chaperone. Oh goodie. It just so happened that I got absolutely zero sleep the night before and wasn't sure how I was going to survive an all day field trip. Starting out with a little zen time definitely helped.
We made it there safe and sound and listened to the spiel and we were off. My major complete was that we left the school at 9am.  We arrived to the monument just before 12. The teachers decided that it was a good idea to go on the hike before lunch. When did we get to eat? 2 pm.  I was getting hungry.  The kids were starving. No one was paying attention to all the factoids and the teacher was getting annoyed. No one cared. Everyone just wanted food. You would think that people who work with children for a living would understand the need to feed the belly before feeding the mind. But hey, what do I know? It was getting ugly by the end and it was no mystery why. Did I mention that the kids eat lunch at 10:30 am everyday at school? Good times.
In spite of our raging hunger, we did have some fun. Jordyn is my last little one. She is graduating the 5th grade and I can hardly believe it. There really won't be any other field trips for me to attend. I'm so glad I was able to go and that we survived the hunger pains and grumpy attitudes, and we survived the major wind storm that was blowing us around all the way home. It was so windy and scary that I txt my husband and told him that we were probably going to die and that he should be nice to the kids and I will keep an eye on him from Heaven - he doubted I would get that lucky-we keep joking with each other which one of us is getting out of this life first. Good news. We managed to make it home in one piece by 5 pm......where I immediately drove Jordyn to her friends birthday party. Oi vey!
