Our Spring break festivities started out Wed morning when we dropped of Champ at the pet hotel and headed out for Alamogordo, NM with our friends, the Brady's. It is about a 4 hour trip from our house and we debated up to a couple of days before the trip whether to get a hotel or take the travel trailers. In the end we went with the hotel and taking our 4-wheelers instead. Wed night was pretty much a bust because of the time we got there so we decided to let the kids swim in the indoor pool and then go to dinner and then have an American Idol party --it was so much more fun to watch it with friends. The next morning we packed a picnic and headed for white sands. I have never seen anything like it. It looks like snow and it makes you feel like you should be cold or there should be an ocean near by, but nope, there's not. It did however used to be a seabed a billion (I can't remember how long ago) years ago. The sand was soft and under the top layer it was cold, but not wet. When you climbed to the top it was sand dunes as far as the eye could see. Climbing to the top of these dunes was quite the task because for every 2 steps up you went 1 step back. It is definitely a work out for sure and we were wondering where the tow rope was. :) We discovered too late that in order to fly down these sand dunes you need wax on your sled and they were out at the gift shop so we just made due and eventually I found a tiny piece of wax and so we waxed up and boy did that make a huge difference. You could actually go down the hill at a much faster pace to make it fun especially since the more you weigh the more you sink down into the sand instead of gliding effortlessly on top of the sand. :)
From blinding white sand to red dirt we went after that to ride the 4-wheelers on some really cool trails. The only real bummer was that the wind had picked up significantly so it was a bit miserable, but we tuffed it out and had fun anyway. By this point we were covered in white sand and red dirt and wind blown so we packed up and headed back to the hotel for a jump in the pool and showers to try and get clean. Which reminds me of the sign going into white sands that said no taking out rocks, plants or sand......we wondered if they were going to have a butt crack check point for all the sand that made it into every nook and cranny we had. lol. Anyway... we also met up with a friend and fellow podiatrist there in Alamogordo and hung out at his house with his family for a while.
Our last day was freezing cold so we went to the space museum ---where I discovered 2 things 1 should I ever have a chance to go to space I could still have my caffeine fix and 2 those men going to space were skinny!!! We also checked out the imax movie that they had there about sharks. I fell asleep during the movie because after having an HD tv, honestly I was unimpressed....I know....I couldn't be more of a saddle bags!!! The movie was kind of blurry and had no vivid colors and even though the screen was in a dome shape to make it look like we were under water it just didn't do it for me....so sorry imax....I tried. We went to a little zoo/park they had there in town where I spent most of my time in the car with a tantrum throwing Jordyn but they did have some cool animals that I got to see and my most favorite animal of all...turtles. :) Then home we went just in time for me to get horribly sick... I mean majorly sick, going to die sick, but I'm all better now. What is it with me and coming home from vacation only to get sick lately????
