Field Trip

This Tuesday I got to go on the 5th grade field trip to the Sandia Mountains where we got a lesson on Eco Systems. J really wanted me to ride the bus and there was limited space, so we got real cozy! Luckily it was only about an hour ride and the kids were pretty entertaining. A flood of memories from my days on the bus came to mind and the girl sitting behind me even pulled my hair 3 times so it was just like I remembered it! On the way back home there were even 4 boys in front of us engaging in some extremely inappropriate conversations and I had to intervene. I politly said "Gentlemen, are you having an appropriate conversation?" To which they hung their heads in shame and said "no." I was actually surprised that they didn't just laugh or tell me off, because kids now days just aren't afraid of parents like I used to be growing up. Anyway.

The day turned out to be warmer than I had anticipated, but it still wasn't all that warm. There was snow on the ground and the wind was blowing, but at least the sun was out. The only problem the sun created was melting the snow and making all the trails extremely slippery and muddy. Who doesn't like tromping through the mud though? I was very relived that the instructor didn't go all "global warming" or "Darwin" crap on me. I was afraid that I was going to have to call him out on the lies he was brainwashing our children with, but alas, all was relatively well. We just learned about all the components of an Eco system and then hiked around. All in all, it was a pretty fun day and J was so excited and happy that his Mom was there. I have to enjoy those moments when my kids still beg for me to come on field trips before I become totally uncool! ;)

I would have loved to see the looks on those boys faces after you confronted them! Classic mom move! Remember how mom used to come down while we were watching tv and ask us, "Does this show have any redeeming value?" Haha... totally classic.
