Puppy Love

Dog ownership, take two............ This Saturday the search for a replacement for our beloved Cody began and then ended with Champ. Nate took the kids over to a no kill animal shelter to check out a litter of lab puppies that were ready for adoption only to find out that they all had ring worm and were quarantined. :( They then spotted some super cute cocker/lab mix puppies that wouldn't be avail for a couple of weeks. While they were talking to some volunteers someone brought in a 5 month old yellow lab/retriever for surrender due to some domestic problems. Well, needless to say everyone immediately fell in love with this little (huge) puppy named Champ. Nate and the kids wanted some time to think and the shelter was going to load this little guy up for the mobile adoption so off they went to eat some lunch and think. Emma called and told me about this dog they were in love with and I gave them the go ahead, but then they couldn't find the mobile adoption. One long story and wild goose chase later one of the volunteer ladies decided to take him home as a foster because he seemed pretty sad and so she had to bring him back so we could look at him again. This little guy went from 1 home to another within the same day, but he is taking it like a Champ. :) I'm not overly fond of the name, but he knows it so we'll see if we stick with it or not. But he sure is cute!I was trying so hard to get his picture and he would not hold still. He kept jumping on me and licking me and then running all over the place and jumping and licking all over the kids.
He has got the funkiest tongue I have ever seen. Look at it! It is brown on the edges and pink in the middle. Crazy! I can also confirm that the yellow breeds do shed quite a bit more. The fur is flying around here even though he has short hair. We are officially the people you see going around places with dog hair on them. (eyes rolling)

He is a fun loving beast of a dog and we love him already. I was finally able to get in a shot with him holding still and then right after I took this he jumped on me and started licking me to death.

This dog is huge and heavy and he is scared to death of our stairs which makes for quite the work out trying to get him back down the stairs. Also dogs this big have massive amounts of pee--just in case you were wondering. :) Jordyn is also a completely different kid around this dog than she was with our last one. She loves him and for the most part isn't afraid of him she even said "we are keeping Champ forever!"

After meeting Champ for the first time tonight, I can vouch that he is quite the cutie. He really does come bounding over and start licking you like you've been friends forever. While we all loved Cody, Champ is a pretty darn good #2!

So happy for you! Every family should have a dog! We recently got a good one! We've always had the big shedders and I don't envy you there...that hair gets EVERYWHERE! After moving here we would find it in strange places like on my Christmas Tree skirt or in the cuff of Scott's church pants. Crazy!

We opted for the smaller no shed kind of dog this time and we are lovin' it!

Your dog is very cute! Love the tongue! Hope this one works out because it's great to have a doggie!!

Congrats Heath. Hope this one turns out great.

BTW, did they tell you what breed they think he is? He looks mostly lab but his purplish tongue points possibly to Chow and his blockish head looks a little Rot.

He looks like a happy guy.

I guess I should amend that comment above.

I had a friend with a Chow when I was a kid. I remember the dark tongue. Never seen another breed with it, but apparently it's common.

Kinda neat!
