Service Project

It's that time of year when everyone starts thinking about how to help those in need around us.  Our yw collected items for a local homeless shelter.  We sorted out all the donations and made hygiene kits.

Most of the shelters have their needs met during the holidays and then charity fades away all the rest of the year.  But, whenever you think about doing it, you should and they are always happy for the help.  You can call a shelter near you and get a list of needs.  Our list had items listed by priority so we could be sure to collect items that were in the most need.
When some of our leaders dropped off all the donated items today they learned that there are in need of servers for the evening meals.  I'm not sure we can pull something together with the yw in our ward, but I am thinking about taking my family- even the little ones.  It is important to learn early that there are people to serve and how to do it.  To learn "where much is given, much is required."  To step outside your comfort zone and serve.

One of the volunteers at the shelter remarked at how much was brought.  She told my advisor about an experience she had as a child living in CA when a wildfire took her home.  The Mormons came and helped us and shared the gospel with us and made us feel so good - was the summarization of what she said.  She also said that Mormons were the most charitable.  So glad she is having good experiences with Mormons.  We're all just trying to "try a little harder to be a little better"~Gordon B Hinckley.

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have adone it unto one of the bleast of these my cbrethren, ye have done it unto me.
Matthew 25
