As my daughter lay on the floor in a state of depression over having to take her medicine, I comforted her with a song. She said "why does medicine have to taste so bad?"
Because it's medicine, it's supposed to. But, 'a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down…'
I decided, why not. Let's get out an actual spoon full of sugar.
She was sold on the idea.
As you can see by my miniature case study, a spoon full of sugar does help get that nasty stuff down. I reminded her that if she would just learn to swallow a pill she wouldn't have to put up with this nasty sludge anymore. But look at that happy face that the sugar actually worked making her able to endure the medicine so she could get well.
Some things are just too nasty and no matter how large a spoon of sugar you have, the "medicine" just will not go down. While we were at the doctor for Jordyn a couple of interesting things happened.
The first was getting this lovely little data mining questionnaire (can't wait for the rest that are soon to come). From this point forward everything you do is going to be recored and potentially used against you at some point. Loverly! Don't you love how there are all kinds of choices except for your ethnicity? Either you're hispanic or your not. I also love how on the website only hispanic enrollees are asked if they would like to register to vote. Another bit of loverlyness. Oh and one last commentary. Aren't the new ads to sign up for healthcare especially loverly? If you haven't seen any yet, you're missing out on the degradation of our society.
Oh, the other thing…while in line to check out, the lady in front of me was telling the cashier that she had only 2 weeks to decide what to do about her plan. It was going to cost her way more than she was paying now and she was considering just paying the fine and living without healthcare insurance. Yep, the system is all that it was promised and more….not!
Back to medicine that can be made easier to handle…. remember me talking about a certain handsome man that I saw over the weekend? The one my friend teased me about and said she saw him in the bookstore? Well, while I was at an activity tuesday night, my friend that I ran into there started telling me about her favorite presenter at the event. Yep, the same one. Too hilarious. We discussed his handsomeness and awesome crazy spiritualness and then she slipped in that she actually got her picture with him….It was while a singing group was performing that neither one of us can hardly stand.
She emailed me the picture with this little line to make me jealous.
"Just a little righteous eye candy...you could always photoshop me for
you...but that would be, well, dishonest. And then ______would
try to write a song about it and it wouldn't be funny, just sappy."

I omitted the name of the group to spare feelings.
My friend spent 4 years in his class and she was super happy that he remembered her. She's a pretty unforgettable gal, so I'm not surprised.
Seriously though, he is super awesome and I soooooo want to take a guided tour of Jerusalem with him.
My friend, on the other hand, is a brat! :0)
Oh, almost forgot to tie this back into medicine and sugar. His presentation was all about pouring out all the grief and pain that is in our vessels so that the Lord can pour in his love and change us.
"God wants past tense faith in future tense answers" was one of my fav quotes by S Michael Wilcox.
Another presenter there by the same last name, but I don't think any relation said "He's not just proving us, he's improving us." Brad Wilcox
Change is hard. Taking the awful medicine of repentance is hard but the Lord is there with the love (sugar) to help it go down easier and then when you've accessed the gift of the atonement you can have a great big smile on your face, just like my little girl because you have been healed and made perfect and whole. You have been sanctified and your vessel is full of the pure love of Christ.
