I'm not sure what I found in my bedroom is a good use of poetry, but it was highly entertaining. Apparently the 2 little ones decided to play this game in my bedroom and it abruptly ended with this poem when Ethan handed it to Jordyn. I'm not sure how it's even possible to both be the sock and fill it with yourself. That's some classic poetry right there!
When I went to investigate if this was a little poem indented for me or what exactly it was, it led to a very interesting conversation with my 2 oldest. Emma took the opportunity to remind Jared of the time he wrote a poem for a girl and then folded it into an origami rose. This led Jared to correct her mistakes. It was a sonnet that took 2 hours to write. It was folded into an origami heart, the rose was a duct tape rose that his friend made. There was a bit of miscommunication and the recipient of the sonnet felt inclined to read it to her gifted english class ( they both had gifted English, but different periods -there were also only 4 kids per class) I thought this was going to be a sad moment but Jared said, "it's ok, everyone loved it and Mrs P said that I'm gonna be really great when we get to the poetry section."
Who knew my boy was a romantic (I guess the watching of Romeo and Juliet should have been a dead giveaway). He had given her the poem at the end of the school year and then he switched over to doing cyber school - the boy hates social media and barely uses his phone so they've lost touch. The funniest part of the story was him talking about when he started liking her. It was while on a field trip to a space station. I said "so, you fell in love on a space ship?" the reply: "no, we were just co-dr's on our flight crew. She was allergic to latex gloves so I had to protect her all day." I told him that it sounded better to say he fell in love on a space ship and that it was oh so him.
What is even more remarkable is that he knew full well my intentions while he was telling me his poetry and space ship tails. Key indicators were... The wait a minute. I've got to find a pen and paper to write this down. The "you know Mom is going to write this on her blog?" from Emma. I think he wants the world to know just what a little casanova he is. Now, his brother on the other hand....
The poem Ethan wrote and hearing about Jared's love on a space ship were certainly the highlight of my day and it's what I'm going to say when I do fav/worst part of the day with Ethan and Jordyn tonight.
