Alrighty then. I did it. I survived my first day of seminary. Only 178 more to go - I actually didn't know this. One of the other seminary teachers in our ward txt me that when I asked how their first day of class went.
Last night before climbing into bed hoping that I would actually be able to get some sleep, I set my permanent alarm for 5am. Even though I know that alarm has never let me down, I still get a bit worried that it somehow won't go off. I had to check it like 3 times. I have also managed to train my body to wake up without an alarm. I have no idea how that happened because I used to have the hardest time waking up in the morning. This morning I woke up at 4:30. Gotta fine tune that closer to 5.
To get ready for the new school year, we revamped the chore chart again. This time, setting up the seminary room made the list of chores. We decided it was easier to set up the room each night rather than in the morning.
Emma did a "realistic" pose for me at the tables. We got 15 people seated at tables in my dining room. Pretty sweet. I wanted to take a picture this morning of the kids, but I forgot. Maybe if I get one tomorrow, I will add it. We had 14 out of the 15 show up. I have to tell you that there is no greater feeling than a kid showing up that you thought might not.
The goal now will be keeping all 14 there and seeing if the other kids can talk #15 into coming.
I'm also not going to write about anything specific so that I can keep a safe environment. Dang it, I'll have to keep up that personal journal for sure now!
45 minutes goes by lightening fast. After devotional there is really only 30 - if we can keep opening stuff to 15 minutes.
Below is a picture of what my first lesson looked like. I don't write down much. Just an outline to keep me on track. Even with the outline, I hardly used it. It really depends on the responses from the students what direction I go and what actually gets covered. It's really there incase I get lost.
We had the missionaries over for dinner last week and I talked to them about utilizing their talents in seminary. I want to utilize them for some lessons and some home visits. They are an excellent resource that I think gets underutilized. They were practically giddy at the opportunity to wake up even earlier and come teach the kids how to be missionaries. I think they just love having something productive to do....and if they're good missionaries, they crave it. I'm having them come in tomorrow for 20 minutes to teach how to teach the plan of salvation. Having them help teach goes along with my motto "our seminary class is an MTC."
After the first day of seminary was over, I took a deep breath, cast a smile heavenward, and it was time to send my baby off to 5th grade. Seriously breaking my heart how grown up she is getting. Ok, so I just have to tell you what a dork I want to be, but couldn't. Her teachers name is Mrs Fox. It was itching to come out of my mouth.....sooooo.....what does Mrs Fox say?.....neeneenee. I'll have you know that I refrained and just said it in my head while talking to her. My neighbor, on the other hand, did not have such dignity and broke out into the song when she met her. Poor lady, she is going to want to slap someone by the end of the school year because of that song.
