This year Christmas fell on a Sunday. What does this mean? We had a decision to make. We have church at 9 am and even though we went from the normal 3 hour block down to 1 hour for the special occasion the time we met for church didn't change. My initial reaction was one of curiosity over not letting us go an hour or 2 later so there was time for the kids to open presents before going to church. Because the time didn't change and I was not about to get up at 4 or 5 am in order to have time to get everyone ready for church after opening presents, I decided on a controversial plan. The plan was that the kids could open their stockings while eating yummy cinnamon rolls and then get ready for church while the presents sat under the tree patiently waiting for our return. Oh was there weeping and whaling and thoughts of stupidity, but I persisted. Christmas day is my least favorite day of the season. It is all over too quickly and then you are left feeling sad because it is over. All the anticipation and build up and the kindness is gone in a flash. So, I thought it might be nice to extend the day this year by waiting until after church to open gifts. The kids ended up sleeping in that morning getting some much needed rest and then we headed off to church. We had a lovely Christmas program and then we raced home, threw on our jamies and opened gifts. We didn't start opening gifts until almost 11 am and I loved Christmas day this year. We took our time opening gifts and then had some lunch and relaxed until we had family and friends over for dinner. (I totally forgot to take pics at dinner....I know...weird) I did all of the cooking the day before so all I had to do was heat everything up and enjoy the food and company. The sister missionaries even stopped by and gave us a great message. We had a very merry Christmas indeed!
