How did we get ready for Sunday this week? It all started at 8am this morning when we showed up to do our part in the kingdom by cleaning the chapel. The chapel part of the building has been under renovation since June so the gym has been turned into the chapel. As we made our way to the building I was thinking how awesomely fast it is going to be because we don't have the actual chapel to clean as well, lucky us. Famous last words! Talk about jinxing yourself. Oi vey. My best self was not on display this morning...
The first thing I noticed when I walked into the building was sheetrock dust and particles covering the carpet in the foyer. No need to panic, it's just a little mess from the workers walking in and out......The next thing I saw was the gym being completely emptied of all it's contents. Why? Because there was an inch thick layer of construction dust covering all the chairs, hymns, walls and floor. That wasn't supposed to happen. What did Nate find in the bathroom? Paint all over the counters and clogging the sinks. Oh goodie.
After I gave myself a "focus on solutions, not problems" pep talk and made a plan, we got to work. Well....the pep talk came after my grumpy comments.....and Nate gave me that disapproving look.....and I did some "angry cleaning". You know the super focused, you could scrub a hole in the counter, kind of cleaning. Ahh, I'm such a joy to be around sometimes. I quickly remembered that a Mother sets the tone and mentally slapped myself around so my kids wouldn't act like heathens.....man that word is awfully close to the spelling of my name......hmmmm..... lol Anyway...we cleaned every single chair by hand and had to mop the floor twice and all the walls and all the hymn books and vacuum super good. Luckily there were 4 families there so it went really fast. When everyone shows up tomorrow morning for church they will be non the wiser that the building was such a disaster the day before.
To ensure that the girls in my house look extra beautiful to sit in such a clean chapel tomorrow we decided to do our hair. This is what we look like hanging out on a saturday night, pretty awesome, yes? haha Here's to hoping that our hair isn't a frizzy mess tomorrow when these curlers come out. I conned MJ into a picture by saying "don't worry, this wont go on fb." I didn't say anything about my blog though! HA
*Update. This morning while we were sitting in our freshly cleaned chairs, a letter was read over the pulpit from the head building guy (I don't know what he's called) that came to observe the wreckage that happened (we met him and talked to him yesterday). So this letter was addressed to our Bishop and Stake President commending the exemplary service of the families that joyfully assessed a problem and went about fixing it (he had much more official language). What does my husband do? Look over at me, smirk and say "glad he got there after you had your fit." hahaha Yes indeed. Glad he only witnessed our cheerful, helpful attitudes. This rough stone that I am needs a lot more polishing....which hurts.
