Yay, He Passed!

Yesterday I made a last minute run to the scout shop to replace merit badges that mysteriously got swallowed up by our house so that Jared could be in full uniform for his Eagle board of review.  I got them all stitched on and ready to go while he was at school.  Dad made it home just in time to iron his scout shirt and kerchief so he could look sharp.  Nate was also a great help in calming J's nerves -especially because up until the last second he was still printing out stuff to put in his binder to present to the board.  Luckily we didn't have any other last minute problems like our friends who had to break into the scout leaders house, who was out of town, to retrieve all of his letters of recommendation.  This last stage of the process of getting an Eagle is an exercise in vigilance, for certain.  Getting all the paperwork approved and making sure all the information was recorded at the scout office was a headache.  Getting all the letters of recommendation was a couple month process and then scheduling the board of review was another couple month process, but it's all done now. Yippee!!

It was nice to have the board of review at the same time as his friend, who went first.  The process involves handing over your sealed letters of recommendation along with your binder, then you sit and wait for them to go over and read everything.  The next step is to go in for an interview.  When that is finished you leave the room again while they deliberate.  After the deliberation they call you back in the room and let you know if you passed or not.  We arrived while Grant was waiting for his yes or no, so we got to celebrate with him after they gave him the news that he passed.  Jared didn't want to take his picture with Grant because he hadn't had his review yet and if he failed he didn't want a happy picture.  Like he had anything to worry about.  It was good to see him stressed out about something especially over this because that means he cared.  I'm super proud of him and so glad it's over.  It's a lot of work.  Now I've got to plan the court of honor, but luckily we are doing with this family and Grant's mom is a superstar when it comes to stuff like that...so chances are that I will just have to show up :0)

Luckily I've got 2 years before I have to start this process all over again for Ethan....
