Catching Some Visions

So I know that this is a bit of a fast turn around for my blog, but I'm gonna be hopped up on pain meds for the next few days and can't be trusted to write about anything.  We've had a couple of awesome activities lately and I need to blog about those as soon as I get the pictures from our secretary forwarded to me.  This activity came about when I was joking with the Elders last week.  We had 8 sewing machines going trying to make 2 skirts per girl (30 girls) plus an apron for Trek.  I asked the Elders if they wanted to help us sew and they used their lack of sewing skills as an excuse not to help :0)  Elder Larson said that he did know how to make dream catchers from his time serving out on the reservation and that he would teach it to us.  The thought of not having to come up with an activity was too good of a deal to pass up.  "Could you somehow make that into something spiritual?"  "No problem, I can talk about the 12 tribes of Israel or the Godhead."  "SOLD"  I wasn't sure when I was going to utilize this ace in my pocket but I liked knowing it was there.  I had been promising my girls that we would do an Ammon hacking off the arms reenactment because there are a lot of great lessons in that story, but I hadn't gotten around to writing something up yet.  On Saturday at the kite flying activity I was talking to my advisor and telling her that I was either gonna break down and write up something for Ammon or call the Elders.  Well, who should arrive at the park and start walking in my direction but the Elders.  Decision made!  Sweet!  Can I just say that I love missionaries?  I do.  They are so darn cute and I really want my girls exposed to them.  I had already used the missionaries for a joint activity 2 months prior for a big missionary themed night.  That night was super fun and their station was the favorite of the night.  The girls need to have an admiration for the missionaries so that they will want to marry one (Let me be clear.  Not these specific ones!  A similar "man in uniform" someday) and the boys need to want to be them.  :0)  They did a great job talking about some of the navajo traditions and how they are very similar to our beliefs,  by taking what's good about them and expanding them in the truth that we know.    They also talked about the Godhead and Lehi's dream.  We don't pray to the dream catchers,  but it was a great opportunity to talk about Lehi's dream while we were weaving one.  As with all activity nights, by the time opening exercises are over and we get to where we need to be, there is only about 40 min to get anything done.  We didn't make it too far into the project but it was still fun and we can always finish them up another night...and who knew they were so easy to make.
