I Can't Be Trusted

When Nathan goes out of town, who knows what kind of mischief I will be up to. I've remodeled a bathroom, I've bought a cat, seen movies that he's wanted to see with me and numerous other things.  One would think it would be pretty safe to send me out of town.  What trouble could I possibly get myself into, right?  Well, I have now proven myself untrustworthy.  No one could have seen this coming, especially myself.

Emma, Jared and I were in UT having a great time with grandma, grandpa, cousins and conference.  What could be better?  What environment could be safer from trouble?

Well, one morning while eating breakfast in my in-laws kitchen, I surfed fb and found that my friend had rescued a dog that had wandered onto her property.  He was mangy and infested with ticks.  She was not interested in keeping him, but spent several hours cleaning him up.  She had to cut all the matted hair off of him and pick each tick out, bathe him 2 times and clean his inflamed ears out.  The entire process of cleaning him up he was calm and happy and hadn't even barked or nipped one time.  Now all he needed was a home because she didn't want to keep this adorable little guy and the no kill shelter had no room for him.

She knows better than to tempt someone like me that's a sucker for rescuing animals.  Not to mention I've always wanted a little dog that I kept indoors.  We somehow ended up going the cat route instead - because my girls love cats.  Well, you've seen here our track record with cats!  Not to worry, we still have butterscotch or butt butt - which is the name he is now called most frequently.  I've missed Zazzles snuggling up to me while I read scriptures in the morning and following me around the house (Butt Butt isn't allowed in the house because he pees on everything and it stinks!).  I wanted that again but I didn't want a yappy dog that was ill tempered.  Could this be the perfect dog dropped into my lap?

When we got off the airplane I had Emma txt my friend and ask if we could swing by and see it on our way home.  I also had her relay that there were no guarantees that we would take the dog.  I then had her call home and say that we had a little delay coming home.  Luckily Ethan answered the phone and didn't ask any questions.  While we were driving to her house we came up with girl names and boy names for the dog insuring that our ability to walk away without it were slim to none.

Well, by the picture you can see what happened.  You should have seen the look on my kids' faces when we came home with a dog.  My husbands face and reaction were equally priceless.  My punishment?  I'm never allowed to go to conference ever again!  Informing him that not only did I bring home a dog, but that it was definitely going with us in the RV to Nauvoo was even funnier.  He is defenseless when it comes to my wiles.

I realized this morning that the dog is really small.  I have large dogs.  They don't escape.  The cats always managed to escape, but they are cats and cats climb.  So, I hadn't really thought about the huge gap between each of the bars in our side gate.  Apparently Watson - did I forget to mention his name- well, that's it - and yes - it is after Thee Watson- anyway he made friends with the big dogs and tromped right on thru their area and thru the fence to freedom.  I got a call from 2 of my neighbors 10 minutes after I left the house to let Jared drive to school.

My friend plopped Watson in the stroller with her 2 year old son who was in love with our little dog by the time they got home.  He was so sad to have me pick him up.  Now I've got some construction work to do on the fence before we let him out there again without supervision.  While I was driving him home he found the window button and rolled the window all the way down.  It was cracking me up.  I tried to roll it back up out of fear he would jump, but his paw stayed on the button.  When he finally let go and I started to roll the window up again, he pushed it again and rolled it back down.  I think we are in for some trouble with this one.
I took him to the vet yesterday and he doesn't have a chip and he had no tags so there's no way to find an owner.  He has a bruised hind leg and an infection in both ears.  Luckily there was nothing else going on because I'm already 200 dollars in vet bills into this thing.  Not sure what his story is, if only they could talk.  He is house trained and very mild, but he was a wreck when he was found.  He has a home with lots of love now and luckily I didn't become homeless in the process because of a husband kicking me out for brining a dog home.  Yay, we both get to stay :0)
