Lesser Light

I heard about a comment made by a scientist and an obnoxious political talk show host (actually I think he classifies himself as a comedian so he can say whatever he wants and not be held accountable, because it's comedy).  It was this: "religion is the enemy to science."  I've got a scientist in my home, my 15 year old son.  He is very analytical and literal.  So, at dinner I asked what he thought of this premise that religious people are idiots because they believe the moon is it's own light source, instead of that it is a reflection of the sun's light.

Here's what my son said, "that's stupid, no one believes that."  After that he quoted Albert Einstein (who my son practically worships) 'science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.'  Then he wanted to know where it said such a thing in the bible.  Here is the scripture used by the 2 Bill's (Bill N and Bill M):

16 And God made two great lights; the agreater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the bstars also.

Well, as you can see for yourself it doesn't!  Is there lots of light during the day (greater light)? You betcha!  Is there a little bit of light at night (lesser light)? You got it dude.  Does it say anything about the sun being its own light source?  No, but it is.  In fact, it is a similitude of the Son of God who is THE source of light (knowledge) to his people.  Does it say anything about a moon being it's own light source?  No and it's not.  But it does reflect light and we do perceive it to be a light because that reflection lights the night.

My youngest got concerned that this scientist was a bad person.  Why was she concerned?  Because they watch him (Bill N -you know- the science guy) "everyday" at school.  He's not a bad guy, you just have to know what lens people see the world when they are espousing their theories.  It makes me sad that he had to make himself an "enemy" to religion by saying the things he did.  But what else could you expect from someone who aligns himself with the elite ruling class.  He doesn't need to worry about people being offended -well first of all,  because he thinks they are idiots,  but because he's already taken over the schools.

Here's another quote from Thomas Edison "I believe that the science of chemistry alone almost proves the existence of an intelligent creator."

Science needs religion to keep humanity in check and religion needs science to keep religion in check.  They need each other and are not enemies- and anyone who says otherwise, is not as enlightened as they think they are!

I couldn't just leave it there without quoting one of the most memorable talks in the April 2012 General Conference.  It was by Russell M Nelson called "Thanks Be to God."

Anyone who studies the workings of the human body has surely “seen God moving in his majesty and power.”18 Because the body is governed by divine law, any healing comes by obedience to the law upon which that blessing is predicated.19
Yet some people erroneously think that these marvelous physical attributes happened by chance or resulted from a big bang somewhere. Ask yourself, “Could an explosion in a printing shop produce a dictionary?” The likelihood is most remote. But if so, it could never heal its own torn pages or reproduce its own newer editions!
