Rain

It has been raining here for the last 3 days which in nigh unto a miracle.  The rain had let up this morning but it was still looking like it could start up again at any moment.  I decided to risk it and go for a walk anyway.

I decided to take the shorter route because a few drops fell on me just feet into my walk.  I'm from WA State, where it rains all the time.  Nothing stops for the rain there.  I can't even count how many soccer games I played in the pouring rain.  Here when it rains, the world stops as if it's some kind of natural disaster and danger is looming.

It looks very much like the scene of some of my favorite BBC shows, dark and dreary.  I could be considered addicted to such shows.  The latest was North and South -the 2004 version.  My heart is broken that it is over.  I love how you see all of the same actors rotating through all the different shows and a couple of them have made it into some big movies.

Back to my walk in the rain.  The rain really started picking up and then all of the sudden there was my car next to me -with my daughter driving it.  She saw that it was raining pretty hard and wondered if I wanted a ride home.  Good thing I was already soaking or she may have seen the tear in my eyes at her kindness.  I ended up thanking her for her sweet gesture, but I was enjoying too much my walk in the rain and there aren't that many opportunities to.  I was second guessing my decision though.  Not because I was getting soaked and likely to ruin my phone, but because I should have confirmed her action of kindness by getting in the car.  I should have gotten in.

When I got home she reminded me that it wasn't a smart idea to have such an expensive phone out in the rain and instead of countering her lip with more lip, I told her she was right.

While I was getting my breakfast out, I was singing the song, Brave.  She commented on how she couldn't believe I liked that song since it was a contradiction to what I have been talking about -being kind instead of right.  How saying what you want to say isn't always a good thing.  I told her she was right again, but I think of the song differently.... We've got to go back to North and South for this lesson.

Margaret was a perfect example of this.  She tried to live her life according to her principles and because of that she was not well liked and often misunderstood. But, she was always kind about standing up for what she believed in or apologizing if she came across too harshly.  She changed Mr Thornton (who, by the way, is absolutely delicious in every way) and helped build a bridge of understanding and communication between the union and the master.  In the process she ended up changing as well.  When you are about the business of doing good towards all men, that is being brave and saying what you want to say.
