Tonight was our YW in Excellence and the theme was Pattern our lives after the Savior. Thus, the kajilion patterns on the walls. I don't know how it works everywhere else, but usually there is no money in the budget for decent food at such events. This leads to having cheap meals which really means, nasty! I hate going to these events and having to eat first, so there was no nasty food allowed on my watch! We had knock off Cafe Rio, baby!
One lesson I learned today while preparing a bucket load of pico de gallo was a lesson I already knew, yet somehow managed to forget. Always wear gloves when handling jalapeños. I mean seriously. This is something I know. When I was rinsing the seeds out under the water I could hardly breath and see because the oils were so potent. Did this tip me off that I should probably protect my skin? Yeah, no! My hands were on fire the rest of the day and I had a lot of work to do. In case you are curious, holding and carrying things in hands covered in jalapeno oils intensifies the pain. No bueno. Do you think I will remember next time? I certainly hope so. I don't know how many times I can do this and not turn myself in for a mental evaluation.
Back to the event. Emma talked about all the projects she had done, she finished her PP last year and she also led the music. I was so proud of 3 of our little beehives, they had a volleyball game (not practice) tonight and decided to come to yw in excellence instead. I gave them all high fives and told them they were spiritual giants.
I received my young womanhood recognition tonight for the second time. I got the first one back in the early 2000's somewhere and I started this one back in 2010 when I was in yw the last time. I thought I would keep working on it alongside Emma after I was released, but I failed. Luckily I was put back in and was able to get it finished up. I'm going for my first honor bee next. I have a testimony of the program and what it can do for you. If you want to be converted, do pp. If you want to learn to have more integrity, do pp. If you want to have more faith, do pp. If you want....well, you get the idea. In this world where morals and virtue are not valued, you've really got to work hard to instill those principles into yourself and your children. Which are; faith, divine nature, individual worth, knowledge, choice and accountability, good works, integrity and virtue. One of the ways you can get the "pattern" for how you should become more like the Savior is found in the pp manual. I love it, and I never ask anyone to do anything I'm not willing to do myself.
It helps you to keep your "eye single to God."
Now, I've really restrained myself this year. It is day 4 of the balloon fiesta. Have you seen any balloon pictures yet? No, thank you very much, but here are some to make you jealous. Wait....I just remembered that I put a couple up of Jordy looking at balloons, does that count? The top left picture is a lesson learned in missed opportunity. I know better than to be outside without my camera, or at least my phone. By the time I ran back inside the picture perfect picture was gone. There were 3 balloons perfectly framed near the houses. Bug!
So, why are you not here with us? There's still time, hurry!
