Sunday Session

It feels like we just finished unwrapping all the presents under the Christmas tree now that this session of conference is over.  It reminds me of one of my favorite Christmas songs with the lyrics "I cry the day that I take the tree down, I want the season to last all year round."  I know it's my responsibility to carry the spirit of conference with me throughout the next 6 months, I'm just a little sad that it is over.  It was so good this year.  Even president Monson said this morning that he was going to write in his journal about how this mornings session was the best ever.  I loved all of Saturday and all of today as well.  I do have some favorites, naturally.

My family is trying to deliberately kill me with carbs.  Emma decided to do some baking last night in preparation for today.  She made a cream cheese roll bread and cinnamon bread.  She was very proud of her skills.  Do you know how enticing the smell of baking bread is?  It's a killer!

To get out some restlessness we took the dogs for a walk this morning and enjoyed the balloons filling the air.  It was a great way to clear the mind and prepare ourselves to be reverent and spiritually fed.  Oh and I did get the BOM finished this morning.  Yea!

We also discovered today who the real problem is when it comes to getting rid of the kittens.  Exhibit A! In between sessions we also went through our 72 hour kits to make sure everything was still good and change out extra clothing in them.  It's a conference tradition in our house.

There were so many good and timely talks at conference.  I'm tempted to just put the highlights from each speaker, but i don't think I will.  What stood out to me was a few things.  The order of the priesthood was specifically addressed so anyone following after "false Gods" seeking after "equality" for women- ain't gonna happen.  Legislating sin doesn't make God change his mind.  Elder Oaks slammed that one home IMO.  He also should have removed confusion around loving people and supporting their cause- if people were listening.  More themes, We need to be converted.  We need to participate in the work of salvation, it is our sacred duty.  We were also counseled multiple time on how to stay on the path and not be deceived.    I think every speaker had a quotable moment.

One of the cool things that happened was when S Gifford Neilson of the Seventy was talking about missionary work and Emma looked up and said, "hey, that's everything we are working on and putting into our family's plan."  Sweet.  Confirmation that her parents are leading her on the right path.  There isn't a better endorsement.  That actually happened a few times as we heard things that I have been rambling on and on about with our family.  It is always reassuring to know that you are holding tight to the iron rod and not the one wandering around in the mist of darkness because, in this world, you can be led to believe you are the one in the mist while everyone else is hanging on.  When good becomes evil and evil becomes good- especially among those who know better.

Nate and I watched a Christian movie about why God lets bad things happen to good people.  They tried really hard to understand truth, but it made me very glad that I have the fulness of the gospel and I know everything that I need to know and I don't have to rely on Man's interpretation of gospel truths.  I often find myself frustrated because the Christian community seems to be more zealous in their fight for religious liberty and their ability to stand strong and proud of their religion while many members of my church have a more dormant approach to their responsibilities as witnesses of God at all time and in all things and in all places...."Each day is a day of decision and our decisions determine our destiny." Russell M Nelson

How grateful I am for the words of the prophets.  That we are guided and led by worthy men who hold the priesthood with the proper authority given to them by God.  That Christ is the head of his church and we cannot be led astray if we will commit ourselves to living the commandments and keeping our covenants  and partaking of the atonement so that we can be washed clean and be truly changed to be more like our Father in Heaven. We need to be always looking up and never looking back !

Well, I ended up including something from everyone.  I figure it will be fun to look back and see what one liners stood out to me the most.  These quotes are made from my notes which may or may not be 100 percent accurate and they are what my ears heard not necessarily what was said.  Hopefully they are pretty close, but I won't be able to tell until I see the talks in print and read them.  Which is a whole different experience than hearing them live in realtime.
