I know it's not going to look like it, but both these events happened in the same day. I was in a dress with curly hair for the first half of the day and then in pants with straight hair for the second half. The reason isn't very exciting, I got a haircut.
It turned out to be a very lucky day for me. I was having a major debate in my head yesterday morning. Should I or should I not go to the temple. It was my scheduled temple day, but the ladies that I usually go with all weren't avail. Usually I just go by myself when that happens and don't even give it a second thought. Why doubt this time? Because I had already been there Thurs, Fri and Sat. Thurs and Saturday I was working/volunteering and Fri was with Jared.
I started to think that maybe I should pull out the ole family history bin and try to find some more people. Every time I work on it now I am trying to clean stuff up or the people I find have already had their work done for them. I'm in a bit of a finding slump. So, should I do that or go and do some names that I know my friend has waiting in the file folder?
I seriously changed my mind like 15 times yesterday morning. I ended up leaving later than I planned and then I ended up doing more names than I planned once I got there. Some days I feel totally incapable of making a single decision. This one was hard because I hate breaking habits. I know how hard they are to form and how easily they break, so it made me nervous to break the habit by not going.
My biggest problem is that I really needed to time things just right so I could either be quick and go all the way back home or take a long time until my haircut appt, that is closer to the temple than to my house. Every time I kept thinking, ok I'm going to just stop now and be done, I couldn't go.
There are a couple of fun stores up by the temple and now I was committed to just hanging out in that part of town because of my inability to leave. I decided to call the hubs to see if by some small miracle he was avail for lunch....and he was. When I got to his office he was still seeing patients....but it just so happened that the receptionist, B, who is out on maternity leave picked that day to come show off her little princess. As I've mentioned before, Nate and I like to make each other jealous with baby pics...so I had this one snapped and txt it to him. Like a good Dr he didn't check his phone, but when he walked into the hall and saw what I was holding he got majorly jealous! Win! But he promptly snatched her from me. Oh my goodness, she is deliciously adorable. We offered to trade the Mom straight across -our 2 kittens for her baby- she didn't think it was a good deal, bummer. I looooove babies!
What luck! My lack of decision making skills not only got me lunch with the hubs, but it got me holding a sweet little 1 month old baby. Seriously good day!
I guess this next part could have been given it's own post, but nah, we'll just go with it. It was the same day, after all.
We had a combined activity with the boys, a no rules pinewood derby. Emma and E were on a team and they made a "office" themed car. It was seriously cute. Emma brought Ethan's car from last year for me to use if I wanted (how thoughtful of her) and Jared brought one of his old cars (but it was missing all the weights).
There were some pretty hilarious cars. I loved the boulder and the wrench. Bro H stole the show with his motorized propeller car. It kept knocking all the cars off the track, including itself. When it was on the track by itself it was super fun to watch it take off when it hit the straights.
Emma and E had one goal for the night. To come in last place. It's kind of a tradition in our family. If you're not first, you're last! Nobody cares about who came in 5th place (which I was in a 3way tie for 5th) they only care about who took 1st and who took last. The girls were successful in their endeavors. I think they should have gotten cutest car award.
Jared took 10th place, I tied for 5th and Emma came in 11th. First place was won by one of our Beehives. Way to rock it girls! Her car was the gold one with the bolts in it. The weight at the back was a clear advantage. It was a really fun night.
To prove just how nerdy and obsessed with BBC I am, I named my car Flintwinch...although I didn't know how to spell it, but now I do. Dickinson has some of the best character names of all time.
